Where would you go on vacation?

Cork Ireland

-History

-Weather

-Food and entertainment

Cork is located in the province of Munster in the Republic of Ireland's south-west corner. The city centre is an island positioned between two River Lee channels that converge downstream at the city's eastern end, leading to Lough Mahon and Cork Harbour, one of the world's largest natural harbours. The name "the rebel city" comes from the city's support for the Yorkist cause during the Wars of the Roses. Corkonians call the city "the real capital" because of its opposition to the Anglo-Irish Treaty during the Irish Civil War. Cork's climate, like that of the rest of Ireland, is mildly oceanic and varied, with plenty of rain and few temperature extremes. Ireland's climate is temperate, which means it's never too hot or too cold. The Atlantic Ocean to the west has the greatest influence on the country's weather; it is often harsh but more often forgiving, preventing any extremes in Ireland's temperatures. Weather dominates conversations in Cork, and because of its changeable nature, you'll often hear people refer to 'four seasons in one day.'Cork enjoys ample of sunshine in the summer, with average highs of 24°C. As with anywhere in Ireland, you should expect rainy days with an average of 73 days of “heavy rain” per year. Also Cork is known as Ireland's food capital for a reason: the variety of products available is incredible, ranging from outstanding artisan cheese to exquisitely produced smoked seafoods. It's jam-packed with superb restaurants, hip pubs, and the buzzing English Market, which takes you on a culinary tour of the county's best fare.

A memory from my childhood

It is not a story but it is something I quite enjoyed as a kid. When I was little I loved playing with my dad in the park. I loved when he swung me in the swing, and he invented stories like if I was a fairy in my little castle. After that we used to have ice cream with the shape of a foot that tasted like strawberries, it is called 'Frigopie' here in Spain for those of you that may not know it. Then we arrived home and we made my favorite dinner. His homemade recipe for pizza. I loved making little pizzas with the shape of a heart, I remember that we once made 2 dinosaur pizzas and made the eyes out of black olives. I miss those days, as now I'm all grown up and I'm no longer dad's little princess.

Discrimination

On a day-to-day basis, I think much about this matter. Whenever I have a chance to share my opinion on feminism, racism, and overall human rights I do. It is of much importance that people around me know what I stand for. And in our society economic discrimination is the base of all. If you are poor your life here will not be a walk in the park. The same thing happens with gender roles and racism. Gender roles assign certain things to you depending on what genitalia you were born with. And racism happens because of your race, skin color, and nationality. From personal experience, I can only talk about gender roles as I am a white cis woman. And it sucks how women are underlooked in society and how everything works against us sometimes. I do not like being chased at night and being assigned certain things because I was born this way. Same happens with trans people, their rights are taken for granted.

Globalization

Today’s society has been put into a globalization process ever since cultures and economies started to link up in the 20s. Yet, globalization is a helpful matter when talking about problem-solving, better communication, and resource availability between countries.

When mentioning globalization, the first thing that we envision as a prevalent benefit is resource availability. When conquerors reached other territories, the main objective behind it was to find new resources. Take the tomatoes and potatoes from America as an example, or tea and spices from India. Still to this day, resources and goods from other parts of the world are needed elsewhere. Online shopping has also sped up this process, as you can order anything from the comfort of your house and get it the next day, even if it was in Belgium 24 hours ago. The Schengen Space has also made this simple, as the European Union was smart enough to make a visa for the citizens that integrate it, reducing the time it takes to move goods across this area.

On another note, communication is better than ever before. The Schengen Space also has contributed to traveling passport and visa-free within it. Traveling is made significantly easy for students, as the E.U. creates this space to make them get to know cultures and languages with interrail experiences and universities that associate. Social media also promotes this communication between people. Currently, you can be messaging someone that lives in another part of the world promptly. The internet is the reason why information comes to us in the blink of an eye.

Thanks to all of the above, communication between countries for problem-solving made diplomats play an enormous role. Diplomacy was born earlier than globalization, in the early 13th century. Without negotiation and agreements, globalization would not be possible; And making sure that peace is upheld between nations is the prime goal. At the same time, consulates are essential; All to ensure that people from their own country are provided with some sort of protection abroad. Altogether with the International Law, that has made possible peace between nations. Many treaties have led us to have a world where we can freely live and travel.

All in all, globalization is a process that has connected the whole world by bettering communication, creating peace between countries, and making resource travel easier world-widely.

Music that’s special to you

I like all kinds of music. When I was little I used to like what my parents liked. Mostly Spanish music, like Miguel Bosé or Pasión Vega. As soon as I grew older I started to like music that played on the radio. I became a fan of Nicki Minaj, Charlie Puth, Ed Sheeran, The Vamps, and so many more artists. In my teens, I kept liking Nicki Minaj because of her flow and the evolution I was seeing in her music. Reggaeton was becoming popular and I started to like Bad Bunny a lot. Even then I listened to English artists like The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, and Adele. Nowadays we can say that I listen mainly to Latin Trap, and my favorite artists are Duki and Ysy A. Yet, I listen to many songs from my past, because they make me remember little things about it and people that made me once happy.

Smoking in public places

This topic is rather problematic nowadays. We have a global pandemic going on and said illness not only transfers by fluids but also air carries it. So smoking would only make it worse, as your saliva sticks into the cigarette and the smoke that comes out expands the virus. However, restrictions have been made for some specific reason, right? It is recommended to smoke almost 4 meters away from people in open spaces. Obviously, it is not allowed indoors. Other than that, as someone who smokes, I did not mind people smoking around me right until covid was a thing. Now I kind of save myself a disappointment and smoke on my own or only near people that I live with. Like, my family, and my partner.
